All Products should be set up with at least Product Types and Groups. This enables the system to produce meaningful sales analysis reports and informative product reports.
The Product Groups also control the system settings for each product, including the General Ledger ID's (depending on the Sales Ledger Priorities), Serial Tracking, Discounts and the Discount matrix.
In addition Product Groups will control the settings for managing Customer Items, Servicing and Warranty.
The Product Group is a more detailed classification of products, possibly but not necessarily within a Product Type.
While it is possible to create a new Product Group from the Product Code, it does not allow you to complete all of these options. It is strongly recommended that users go back and edit the Group once it has been created.
To set up a Product Group go to Admin / Settings / Products / Manage Product Groups
From here you can Enter a new Groups, Edit or Delete an existing Group.
To create a new group
A popup will appear and the Group Name should be entered.
In the next screen, enter the description, General Ledger ID's - only if these are being used from here. Please see the link above regarding the General Ledger Sales Priority's.
If you are tracking serial numbers select this. If you are using Product Types please select from the Drop Down menu. Do the same with the Customer Items Type if you use this module.
Markups
This screen controls the use of Product Group Markups. If this is selected in the Product Screen, the percentage entered here when ticked as active will automatically be activated and used by the system.
Discount Matrix
This relies on the Customer Groups and a discount being applied.
Locations
This works on the Sales order Priority and allows users to define Product Groups at different locations to individual General Ledger codes
Sales Budget
From here, users can set a Budget to each Product Group.
The results can be viewed on the 2 Years Sales by Products Chart on the Dashboard.
Trade Me
Please see this article for the setting up of Trade Me
Deleting A Group

To update the group.
Now go back to Admin / Settings / Products / Manage Product Groups and delete the Group.
When saving any changes to the setup of a Group, this message will appear
Please go to Admin / Utilities and run the Recalculate Product Selling Prices so that all of the changes will take effect.
