Some users may see a security warning when opening their Remote Desktop (.rdp) connection file after downloading it from 1Password or email. This happens because Windows marks files downloaded from the internet with Mark of the Web (MOTW) and blocks them until you confirm the file is trusted.
You only need to do this once per downloaded file, before you open it.
What you might see
If you double-click the .rdp file before unblocking it, Windows SmartScreen may show a warning like this:
Step 1 - Right-click the .rdp file and select Show more options
- Open File Explorer and go to the folder where you saved the .rdp file.
- Right-click the .rdp file.
- Select Show more options (or More options) at the bottom of the menu.
Step 2 - Click Properties
- Click Properties at the bottom of the menu.
Step 3 - Tick Unblock, then click Apply and OK
- On the General tab, tick Unblock near the bottom of the window.
- Click Apply, then OK.
